Training of Health Visitor prepares our students for the health care – including the care and development of the somatic, psychological and social health. The health visitor students acquire principally the primary prevention and it’s coordination, as the main activity of health visitors is the protection, preservation and promotion of health of families – and especially, of women, infants, children and youngsters – cared by them. The health visitor does her everyday activities with the method of consulting which is supported by principles of family-orientated way of thinking, with the help and by acceptance. We introduced to our training as a feature the multi-cultural nursing, the health promotion oft he disadvantageous population and the gypsy culture. The excellent theoretical education is combined with well-organized practice. Our students acquire everyday routine of the health visitor’s job in the urban and rural districts, educational institutes and in the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Country University Hospital. From 2017, we have a correspondence program in Health Visitor in the town Sátoraljaújhely within the Center for Community Higher Education. Graduated health visitors will work in health prevention, in mother-, baby- and child care and in the school health care, respectively. Their task covers the promotion of the individual and public health conscious behaviours. The value of the health visitor profession is emphasized by that, on one hand, it celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 (as this profession was founded by the Stefánia Association in 1915), and, on the other hand, it got the Hungarian Heritage Award in 2013 and became a Hungarian national value and later, in 2015, a Hungaricum.
